Dropped Course Enrollments Not Working in Canvas
Posted in News
GU Experience migrated to a cloud based infrastructure in mid-October 2024. Post migration, out of an abundance of caution, the hourly course enrollment updates in Canvas were altered to include any course additions, but paused any course drops.
We will manually process batches of course drops on Friday, November 22 and Tuesday, December 3. While the drops are paused, you may experience the following:
- Your enrollments in GU Experience may be different than your Canvas enrollments
- Canvas courses may display more students and faculty than are actually enrolled in GU Experience
- The automated course combination service has been postponed for Spring 2025 courses
We apologize for any inconvenience and will provide an update on the resumption of course drops the week of December 9.
For instructors:
Spring 2025 courses
- Consider waiting before publishing your Canvas course. Students who have dropped the course might get confused when they see your published Canvas course on their dashboard.
- Although the automated course combination service that cross-lists courses is not running, you can follow this manual process to combine your courses.
- Canvas Photo Roster may show photos of students who have dropped the course.
Fall 2024 courses
- Canvas course Groups may need to be checked for proper enrollments and manually restored.
- Canvas Photo Roster may show photos of students who have dropped the course.
For students:
You may receive Canvas notifications for courses that you have officially dropped in GU Experience. You can set notification preferences in Canvas for individual courses and turn off notifications for courses you have dropped.
For staff and course schedulers:
Enrollments in Canvas may not match what’s listed in CourseLeaf and GU Experience. The official and accurate enrollments are in CourseLeaf and GU Experience, which is the system of record.
