Educational Technologies for Fall 2025

Posted in News

As many of us begin the traditional start for the academic year, we invite you to take a look at the new developments in educational technologies and training opportunities at Georgetown.

Digital Learning Days August 21!

Join the Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship (CNDLS) for an AI-aware assignment design workshop, followed by a catered lunch and one-on-one consultation time with CNDLS staff. Please see an overview of the program, and RSVP if you plan to attend. Please note that there is no hybrid option for the workshop; if you would like to request a consultation via Zoom, you may do so by joining this link between 1 and 4 p.m.

AI for Teaching and Learning Summer Bootcamp August 18-19

Join CNDLS for an intensive-style program designed to both build faculty AI literacy and provide tools and time for redesigning assignments and integrating AI into course design. Participants will gain hands-on experience with AI tools, explore ethical frameworks and develop practical strategies for teaching and research. The hybrid bootcamp will take place August 18–19, 2025, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. daily. Morning coffee and lunch are included for in-person participants.  The bootcamp will be held in the Fisher Colloquium, on the fourth floor of the Hariri. Register by Aug. 15, 2025.

Self-Paced AI Training Now Available

Explore the Georgetown Applied AI Microcredential for Georgetown faculty, staff and students. This course is meant to help you make thoughtful, informed choices about AI in your teaching, learning and research practices. You’ll explore how artificial intelligence intersects with these three areas. You may take the full course, assign it to students or use individual modules in your own teaching or work. Those who successfully complete all modules and assignments can earn a digital badge and/or a transcript notation.

Tech Updates

  • Canvas Commons: The Georgetown instance of Canvas now allows instructors to access content shared by other instructors across the world and import it into their courses, and also to share their own content with the world. See our guide to Canvas Commons here.
  • Canvas Discussions recently added the long-awaited checkpoints feature, so you can grade both posts and responses in the same discussion. See our notes here.
  • Canvas now has a limited search feature that allows users to search for most (but not all) materials within a course, if the instructor enables Smart Search for the course. See the link for details.
  • Check out the list of external apps in Canvas. Do you want to use an app that’s not on the list or in the Canvas App Center? Submit this Google form, and we’ll assess its feasibility as a tool to be integrated with Canvas.

Classroom Technology Contacts

Georgetown schools and campuses have the following separate points of contact for classroom technology needs:

  • Hilltop Campus: Classroom Education Technology Services (CETS) can meet with you for one-on-one instruction in your classroom, ideally before the first day of class. Contact cets@georgetown.edu or call 202-687-7491. Check this list to find out which CETS technician to contact for the building where you will be teaching.
    • McDonough School of Business (Hariri Building): Contact msbhelp@georgetown.edu
    • School of Medicine: Contact help@georgetown.edu. For urgent issues requiring immediate classroom assistance, call 202-687-4949 and select option six.
  • Capitol Campus: Contact caphelp@georgetown.edu, and also watch for communications from IST.

Training and Consultations on Teaching, Technology and Teaching With Technology

Faculty and staff can reach out to CNDLS for help with effective and practical teaching techniques, ranging from pedagogical choices to implementing technology tools. For quick help, “Ring our Doorbell” by filling out this form, and a CNDLS staff member will reach out to schedule a consultation within the hour. More information is available at cndls.georgetown.edu

To scale campus-wide support, we invite you to engage with the CNDLS Digital Learning and Technology Assistants (DLTA) program. Our trained undergraduate assistants, available when school is in session, offer in-person and remote support at the Digital Learning and Technology Lab (ICC 224). The DLTA team can help faculty integrate AI tools into teaching, incorporate digital tools like Mentimeter and Canvas, provide Canvas course setup assistance and offer technology support for students.
